The Mirror
Cover art for UConn’s undergraduate sociology magazine.
In April 2023, the editor-in-chief of The Mirror reached out to me asking for cover art and graphics for the third publication of the journal. This year, the theme was “disillusionment”, an idea meant to capture the emotion that modern activists face when ignored by authority figures and powers.
From this thematic prompt, I knew I wanted to juxtapose the foreground and the background, as to symbolize expectation versus reality. I fed a a few of my ideas into Midjourney’s generative AI in order to create digital assets and subjects, and used Photoshop to compose them into the drafts below.

Final Version
The team gravitated to this piece, so after some minor adjustments, it was put on the front cover of third edition of The Mirror. The woman’s gaze is directed towards the crack in the otherwise beautiful landscape scene, illustrating her feeling of disillusionment (and also giving a nod to The Truman Show). You can access the journal here.
